The overwhelmed feelings are exacerbated by my work in publishing and in my radio shows. I have added to my workload, no one else did it to me, but that overwhelmed feeling can sometimes consume me. When this happens, as it definitely does at times when I over commit, I simply stop functioning well. I sometimes seem not to function at all. I look first in one direction then the other, not knowing which way to begin.
The only thing to do at a time like this is simply to allow ourselves to have a breakdown. We need to allow that breakdown so that we can let go of the tension that has built up in us over an extended period of time. We are a dam burst, just waiting to happen. When we allow those feelings to release, we will gain what we need to in order to begin to pick up the pieces and start anew.
It is important to find the time and place that we can release our feelings. We need to perhaps take a day off of work. We need to give ourselves some much-needed attention so that we can rebalance our emotions.
Then, we need to make a plan that will allow us to process our emotions and our feelings of overwhelm meant in a better way so that we do not repeat this pattern over and over. We can do this by finding time to talk regularly with someone who understands and supports us or we can journal our feelings. The important thing to remember is that we need to take regular time for ourselves, so we do not get overwhelmed often. We need to make an effort to stay balanced, so we are ready for all of the great experiences that come our way.
