I realized about five years ago that my thoughts had created what had happened in my life. I found, by reading books by Wayne Dyer, Neale Donald Walsch, Eckhart Tolle, and others that what we think and focus on becomes our reality. In using this information, I changed my thoughts, wrote a book to be followed by several more and became a talk show host. It had all happened in an incredibly short period of time. I am still sometimes rushing to think this has all happened in only a five year span. It is amazing, it is wonderful, and I am extremely thankful.
When I look at the success of the ventures, I am even more amazed. These ventures have not served to make me a wealthy woman if it is defined by money. What has happened is that they have made me wealthy in so many greater ways. That is what I want to address in this blog.
How do you define success? I had always placed a value on success in dollars and cents. I grew up in a generation where that was what measured your success. As I have gained the wisdom of maturity, I see that there are many other ways to place a value on success. I am fortunate that I had a career that allowed me to have a pension to provide income. Not everyone has that luxury. When I embarked upon writing a book, therefore, it was not an issue whether or not the book actually made money. I wrote it with the idea that the book would find its way to whoever it could help. I had no thoughts of other books.
When the book had been out for about eighteen months, I felt myself slipping back into old thought patterns and my life began to dim a bit and I struggled more. That was when I began writing my second
book to help counteract this. As I wrote the second book, I then envisioned further steps that would supply the material for a third, fourth, and fifth book.
During this time, I met someone who wanted me to co-author a novel. I had never envisioned a novel, but after quite a bit of discussion, I decided to take that project on also. It was during this time that we were introduced to radio interviews and we both enjoyed it. When we had a chance to co-host our own radio show, we took advantage of the opportunity.
While the radio show and the partnership was short-lived, it created within me a new desire to continue the community platform that it had provided. I realized that I could have an impact on others through both my writing and my new show. I had the opportunity to not only have a local show of my own but also an Internet show that would give me a global platform. I added a series of children’s books to my growing list of publications.
Because my thoughts have changed, I am now working with people from around the world to bring topics into the show. I have met and begun to work with a Canadian friend who will be a critical contributor to the internet show.
All of this took place as a result of changing my thinking. As the thinking changed, so the opportunities came my way. As I took advantage of my opportunities, more doors opened. This is why I would encourage each and everyone of you to examine your life. If it is not working as you would like for it to, change some of your attitudes and approaches. Doors will open that you had never seen before and when you take a journey through those doors, your life will unfold in unbelievable ways. Living my life with a sense of purpose, living with a renewed ability to expand my sphere of friends and influence, and living a life of enjoyment are how I define success these days.
Something To Ponder
